You’re expecting… CONGRATULATIONS! Or, maybe you already have a little one… WELCOME! Either way, you’ve heard about these things called “cloth diapers” and you’re curious about them, right? Maybe you’re wondering if they can save you time and money. Perhaps you can’t stand the thought of throwing countless chemical and waste laden disposable diapers into your nearest landfill. Whatever the reason for your cloth diaper curiosity we’re happy you are, at least, considering cloth for your baby (and future babies!). Cloth diapers may be intimidating at first, just like anything that is out of the norm. But, millions of other parents have made cloth diapers part of their routine, and you can too! We’re going to keep this little introduction to cloth easy, fun, and to the point. So, let’s get on with it!

Let’s talk money first. You’re little one will probably go through well over 4,000 diapers overall. That’s PER child. So, if you buy single use disposable diapers that really adds up! Especially if you have more than one child and/or decide to go with a “premium” brand which have higher costs. Cloth diapers are like pieces of clothing. After the initial purchase you use them over and over again. Plus, they turn into hand-me-downs and can be worn by younger siblings. Money savings! WOOT! WOOT!

Moving on to convenience, ask any mom or dad out there and they will have at least a couple last minute diaper run stories. Whether it’s before bed or work, or after dinner, they are down to the last diaper and need more. Pronto! With cloth diapers the farthest trip you will have to make is to the dryer or clothesline.

Now for the nitty gritty… washing. Yes, it has to be done. What is the benefit for you? For one, as we already mentioned, you will ALWAYS have diapers. And, as your little one grows they will probably enjoy helping to put diapers in the dryer or hang them on the clothesline, “folding” them, and picking out which color or print they want to wear. So, technically, choosing cloth diapers helps guide your child’s sense of independence. Another very important benefit is that you have control over the chemicals that are placed against your little one’s sensitive skin.
